Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior official commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
